Tiana Kameel Piyadasa

In recognition of perseverance, athleticism, and achievements in the sport of table tennis

We are awarding Tiana Kameel Piyadasa because of her outstanding achievements in table tennis at such a young age. She is a tremendous athlete and a force to be reckoned with.

Tiana Kameel Piyadasa was born in Pasadena, California, to Sri Lankan parents, Thilina Piyadasa and Rifkha Kameel. She is currently attending elementary school in Southern California. For the Kameel Piyadasa’s table tennis is a family tradition. Tiana’s father, Thilina, was a Sri Lankan national table tennis champion for 8 years and is a national-level coach for Team USA. Tiana’s mother, Rifkha, was also a national table tennis player in Sri Lanka. Tiana’s older sister, Tashiya, is a national table tennis champion.

Tiana is already a fierce competitor at just ten years old! In 2021, when she was just eight years old, Tiana was the youngest table tennis player to represent the USA National Table Tennis Team in an international event, where she won two silver and two bronze medals. Currently, Tiana is a member of the USA National team. She won 2nd place in the U13 (under 13) girls singles and 3rd place in the U11 (under 11) girls singles at the 2023 National Table Tennis Championship. When she’s not playing table tennis with her family, this busy ten-year-old attends 5th grade.

Imagine finding yourself facing your older sister in a national championship! When faced with this challenge, Tiana showed a level of determination genuinely unique to an athlete of her age. Tiana’s very proud father puts it well, “As a father, I could not be prouder to witness the extraordinary achievements that Tashiya and Tiana have accomplished in US National Table Tennis. The future undoubtedly holds endless possibilities for these young athletes, and I am honored to be their guiding force as they reach for even greater heights in table tennis.”

The Sri Lanka Foundation thanks Tiana Kameel Piyadasa for her outstanding accomplishments in table tennis. In a family full of table tennis players, Tiana is already shining brightly!
