Sanjiv Gunasekara is the Founder and CEO of Sunland Group of Companies based in Fullerton, California – a company that started with a mere $20,000 now boasts real estate assets exceeding a market value of $28 million. The Group has interests in real estate development, management, construction, and private school operations. Sunland Development currently owns and manages multi-family and single-family dwellings in over 17 locations in Southern California, and Maryland in the United States, and in Edmonton, Canada. The Sunland Group of Companies includes a construction division which specializes in commercial rehabilitation projects and an academic division which oversees the operation of three educational centers.

In 2008, Sanjiv took the lead in fundraising efforts to rehabilitate three historical temples in Sri Lanka, a project that costs more than $120,000. The Manil & Sanjiv Gunasekara Trust has been sponsoring children from 5 to 18 years of age to attend school on a monthly basis for seven years, which has grown to include over 50 children at present. Last year, he completed construction on a two-story building which functions as a Community Center and Buddhist Sunday School for over 45 children in the Tsunami Housing Village of Nelumpokuna Watte, Induruwa in Sri Lanka. During the same period, Sanjiv and his wife Manil funded the construction of a 2,000-square foot facility that includes a dining hall and study rooms at the Angela Home for the Children in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
