Prof. Wimal Dissanayake teaches at the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaii. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the East-West Center, Hawaii and an Honorary Professor at the Open University of Hong Kong.
He has published a large number of scholarly books on culture, cinema, literature and communication. These books have been published by prestigious presses as Oxford, Cambridge, Duke, Indiana, Minnesota and State University of New York Press.
Prof. Dissanayake has a M.A (University of Pennsylvania), Ph. D (University of Cambridge) and an Honorary D.Litt. from the University of Kelaniya.
He is a leading Sinhala poet and literary critic who has won numerous national awards for his work in Sinhala and English. He is also a broadcaster who was honored by the B.B.C.
Prof. Dissanayake is regarded as a leading international scholar in the fields of Asian cinema and Asian communication theory.
