Sri Lanka winds Gold at the South Asian Games

Sri Lanka won its first gold medal in the 2016 South Asian Games in the Men’s 200m Freestyle Swimming event.The medal came from Matthew Abeysinghe who went on to bag Sri Lanka’s second gold in the 100m Butterfly Swimming event. Sri Lanka won its third gold medal in the 100m men’s freestyle relay.The Men’s relay team was led by Mattew Abeysinghe. Sri Lanka’s Michiko Raheem won silver in the Women’s 200m Freestyle.Hiruni Perera won the Silver Medal in the women’s 100m Butterfly and Michiko Raheem won the bronze in the event.Dinusha Hansani won Silver this morning in the women’s 48 kilogramme weightlifting event. Janaka Hemantha Kumara won bronze in the Men’s 40km Individual Time Trial. Chaturanga Lakmal Jayasooriya won the Silver medal in the Men’s 56kg weight lifting event also set a new South Asain record for the snatch method.He lifted a weight of 111 kilogrammes.Chamari Mendis also won the Silver Medal in the Women’s 53kg weightlifting event. Anton Sudesh Peiris won the Gold Medal in the Men’s 62kg Weightlifting event. At the end of day one Sri Lanka had clinched four Gold Medals, ten Silver Medals and seven Bronze Medals in a total of 21 medals. Courtesy of newsfirst.lk
