More time for Sri Lanka: United Nation

While the High commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Ali Hussein prepares his oral report to be presented on coming Wednesday (June 29) in 32nd session of Human Rights Council (HRC), more time would be provided to Sri Lanka by UN, it is learnt.

Transitional justice mechanisms were spelt out and adopted unanimously by the UNHRC in September 2015 through Resolution 30/1, which Sri Lanka cosponsored.

This time period is given to fully implement the resolutions passed in UNHRC last September. It is learnt.

The government is being taking steps to carry out the internal justice mechanisms which adopted in Geneva last year The Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera is to be explained about the progress of these activities in Geneva.
