Corruption accused Sri Lanka central bank chief Mahendran not seeking extension

Sri Lanka’s central bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who is facing a corruption investigation has said he will not be seeking an extension to his term when it ends on June 30.

The Singaporean was brought in by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe from Singapore.

A parliamentary panel, the Committee on Public Enterprises, is investigating allegations that he favored his son-in-law, a primary market dealer, has gained from sovereign bond sales. Mahendran has also been accused of multi-million rupee spending on his government credit card. He has denied the allegations.

He was cleared in an earlier investigation.
