Natural disasters such as floods have plagued the country over the past several years claiming the lives of hundreds. Most efforts so far have dealt with the post-disaster situation instead of preparing our populace for the disasters that they could face.
Today Gammaddas changed this premise by joining hands with Asia – Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management. Two workshops were held on May 5th in Ratnapura and Matara in order prepare residents for possible flooding. The Areas were some of the worst affected by floods both in 2016 and 2017.
The participants of the workshop were given advice on how to prepare for a possible natural disaster, what to do when faced with such a situation and how to protect their loved ones. They received educational pamphlets, as well as practical demonstrations on first aid skills such as CPR.
The program will moved to the Galle district on Sunday (May 6th) and the Kalutara on Monday (May 7). The program has also received the backing of local administrations at District and Divisional Secretariat level and the local police.
