The Coconut Development Authority states that unscrupulous merchants are importing low-quality oil and selling it off as coconut oil. Chairperson of the Coconut Development Authority Udaya Rupasinghe added that the consumption of low-quality oil could lead to fatal diseases including cancer. He noted that a program has been launched to stop the general public from being scammed in this manner.
