U.S. Pacific Command, in partnership with the Maldives National Defense Force, will conduct a South Asia Environmental Security Forum 2-5 June 2014 in the Republic of the Maldives.

The event, which will involve representatives from nations throughout South Asia, international governmental organizations, and observers, will promote regional cooperation on the topics of water security, waste management, resource protection and energy.

The event will foster an opportunity for participants to engage in developing regional solutions to identified environmental problems. The event follows the Pacific Environmental Security Forum, which was held in Sydney, Australia in 2013.

The Forum will feature presentations by Subject Matter Experts, panel discussions, workshops, a Table-Top Exercise and a site visit to Thulusdhoo Island to view practical applications of integrated water resource management.

The results of the event will assist participating groups to enhance existing environmental security documents and procedures and develop new ones to adapt to and mitigate climate change.
