Sri Lankan Government makes landmark Decision to Ban Pesticides Containing Five Chemicals.

In a surprise decision on Monday, December 22nd the government banned all pesticides containing Glyphosate, Propanil, Carbaryl, Cholopyrifos and Carbofuran. These chemicals have been taking the lives of men ages 17-45 for the past two decades.

Registrar of Pesticide Dr.  G.A.W Wijesekara stated that all licenses issued have been modified and the use and sale of any pesticide with these chemicals are banned in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Mahiyangana & Badulla District.

Chronic Kidney Disease has taken the lives of around 20,000 people and affected a total of 400,000 patients mainly in the North Central Province in Sri Lanka.
