Culture, heritage and community were three words that filled Paseo Colorado in Pasadena last Saturday. Sri Lankan Americans from around Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura and Orange counties gathered at Pasadena to enjoy the one day event that showcases our beautiful mother land Sri Lanka. Over 190 performers of all ages took the stage performing traditional, fusion and modern dances, music and acts. Sri Lanka Youth Organization held a fabulous Fashion Show showcasing the history of fashion in Sri Lanka featuring Talin & Demented. To add to the splendor many choreographers and dance groups including the Sri Lanka Foundation Performing Arts Center performed beautiful dance items. The Garfield courtyard was filled with various booths filled with Sri Lankan souvenirs, jewelry and sarees Visitors were able to taste authentic Sri Lankan food like Hoppers and rice and curry, they were able to drink ceylon tea and faluda. The extremely hot weather did not stop the visitors who gathered to experience Sri Lanka. History was made with the grand finale performed by the Sri Lanka Foundation Performing Arts Center Troupe as they danced to the new Sri Lanka Day theme song which called for unity among Sri Lankan Americans of all ages to come together as one and showcase Sri Lankan pride to the world. As the day merged into night prizes were given out, lucky winners won tickets to Sri Lanka sponsored by Sri Lanka Airlines, Quatar Airlines and Upuls Travels.
