Over 750 middle schoolers from around United States gathered at the Sheraton Gateway LAX on April 28 for the 17th Model United Nations Summit. Since 2001, the Model United Nations (MUN) program has given the opportunity to middle school students (delegates) to discuss international issues, discover other cultures, develop life-enhancing skills, and make new friends. The four-month program culminates when delegates from around the United States meet at the Annual Model United Nations Summit in Los Angeles, California.
This year the four day summit was held at the Sheraton Gateway LAX from April 26, 2018 – April 29, 2018. Sri Lanka Foundation Performing Arts Center was invited by the YMCA to perform and have a workshop on Sri Lankan Dance and Culture on Saturday April 28th. SLF performing arts center showcased vibrant costumes of Sri Lanka and the many unique forms of traditional dance. Participants even got a chance to join the performers in learning various steps of dance. They also learned about various traditional drums of Sri Lanka and the SLF Performing Arts Center performed a wonderful drum act. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the cultural diversity and improve cultural awareness.
