This year, Sri Lanka Day was held at Paseo Colorado in Pasadena, California for the very first time. Sri Lanka Foundation wanted the community to experience Sri Lanka, taste Sri Lanka, hear Sri Lanka, dance with Sri Lanka, take Sri Lanka home, and celebrate Sri Lanka.
Guests experienced all the elements of Sri Lankan music, tasted the exotic spices of traditional dishes, heard the drums echo through the distance, danced with world renowned Sri Lankan performers, purchased Sri Lankan products and celebrated the Parade of Lanka. The Parade of Lanka is a colorful and carefully orchestrated parade with flag bearers, theatre elephants, and ornate costumes.
An event wouldn’t be complete without free prizes! Sri Lanka Foundation’s Good Luck Draw asked visitors to subscribe to SLF’s Good News List and the 3rd prize winner won a Beats Pill 2, a value of $199.95. The 2nd prize winner took home an iPad Mini 3, a value of up to $399.00 and the 1st place winner won the grand prize of a Sony 50” LED HD TV, a value of up to $1,199.99. Other grand prizes included air flight tickets to Sri Lanka and were provided by Sri Lankan Airlines, Qatar Airlines and Upul’s Travel Service Inc.
