Visitors including foreigners climbed the world heritage site, the Sigiriya rock fortress in their thousands during the New Year season after queueing for hours braving the scorching sun. Some of the visitors slowly making their way to the Sigiriya summit. It is said that there were over 15,000 visitors each day.
