The Royal College Old Boys’ Association of North America (RCOBANA) commenced their second ‘Win the World with English’ (WWWE) program at Royal College with the start of 2017. Members of RCOBANA handed over $4000 to the Principal and Royal College Union as the funding for the Win the World With English second project.

RCOBANA launched the program when members visited their alma mater and reported that many present day students could not converse in English. A new batch of 38 Grade 8 students will be taught by English teachers from the Cosmopolitan Training Centre, Priyanka Mendis and Manu Mudalige.

Speeches were given by a few students from the first “Win the world with English” program. Prof. Rupa Purasinghe, Coordinator of “Win the World with English” Program for RCOBANA explained that the students’ progress as seen from the speeches was proof of the success. Chief Guest, City Planning and Water Supply Minister Rauff Hakeem, said that he too entered Royal College through a Navodaya scholarship from Galagedara. He emphasized that a knowledge of spoken English is important and programs such as this would greatly help students achieve success.
