President Maithripala Sirisena, chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party suspended the Sri Lanka Freedom Party membership of Dr. Rajitha Senarathne, S.B. Navinna, M.K.D.S Gunawardena, Arjuna Ranatunga and Hirunika Premachandra with immediate effect.
The communique goes on to say that this measure was taken by the chairman of the SLFP by the powers vested in him through the party constitution as the aforementioned persons had acted in violation of party rules and regulations.
