President Maithripala Sirisena signed a special gazette declaring four forests near Wilpattu North Sanctuary, conservations. The gazette sets out the Mavillu, Weppal, Karadikkuli, Marichchikadi and Vilaththikulam forests as the Mavillu Forest Reserve, under 3A of the Forest Conservation Ordinance. The forests area belongs to the Department of Forest Conservation.
