I am the only daughter born to a political and a Buddhist family in Colombo. During my childhood I learnt how to appreciate, be humble, respectful and care for others. I left Sri Lanka in 1980 right after my ordinary levels to pursue my studies in England in Architecture and Designing which was my passion. I got married to the man I loved, Suraj Fernando at a very early age in my life. I am a mother of two adult sons.

When I was nominated to be the President of SLAASC, I felt honored and obligated as a Sri Lankan to be a part of a legendary organization which is the oldest Sri Lankan Organization in the world out of Sri Lanka. I truly believe in duties and obligations. I served my fare share to the school I received my primary education, Musaeus College, by holding the Presidency for 2 ½ successful years.

During my term as the President our team completed ten projects in eleven months, which consist of fundraisers, educational workshops, charitable projects and other social events. My advice to the new President and the committee members, to continue serving our very own Sri Lankan Community, take the leadership to bring awareness that SLAASC is a leader in serving the Sri Lankan community in Southern California.

I am hoping the future of SLAASC committees will focus on community projects, service projects, educational workshops and other outreach programs. As my term comes to an end I extend my best wishes to the new committee and to enjoy serving our brothers and sisters, appreciate even a word of support. Time flies when you are engaged in accomplishing your goals and I can assure you this gives a sense of satisfaction.

My sincere Congratulations and Best Wishes to the new 2017 President and the committee members!
