President invites expatriates to return home

President Maithripala Sirisena extended an open invitation to all Sri Lankan expatriates, who moved to Germany as refugees during the conflict era, to return to the motherland and enjoy her freedom. This was said in response to a question by a journalist at the media briefing held after the official meeting with the Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel.

The President commended the assistance given by the Government of Germany for the development of Sri Lanka over the past five decades and that he aims to develop the long –standing partnership between the two countries into new areas of cooperation.

Addressing the press briefing the Chancellor said that she is happy with the democratic changes which took place in Sri Lanka under the leadership of the President Maithripala Sirisena and expressed her satisfaction over establishing peace in the country.

She further said that the Government of Germany will provide assistance to prevent kidney disease and pledge to provide assistance for the construction of water purification system. She also promised to send a representative team of German experts to conduct experiments on people suffering from kidney disease.

The German Chancellor said Sri Lanka is a country which has tourist attraction and expressed her willingness to further improve the tourist relations in the two countries.

She also stated that the actions will be taken to further send German investors to Sri Lanka by enhancing the trust and awareness of those investors on Sri Lanka.
