Meet Outstanding Performance by a Young Professional Award winner Enoka Imali Fernando

We are awarding Enoka because of her impressive work in aeronautical engineering, as her mastery and leadership are inspiring.

Enoka Imali Fernando’s journey began at Musaeus College and Stafford International in Sri Lanka, where she won numerous awards for swimming and academic subjects. She went on to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Games for swimming. After winning multiple scholarships for her final two years of college in the USA, Enoka graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina State University with a double degree in Aerospace & Aeronautical Engineering.

Enoka has more than 20 years of experience as an aeronautical engineer. Beginning in 2000 as a Junior Loads Engineer for Butler Technical Group in Encino, CA, she has advanced in the industry to be the External Loads Engineer for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and the Lead Engineer for Boeing New and Small Airplanes. She has worked for over a decade as an aeronautical engineer at the main Boeing plant in Seattle, WA, where she is a trusted leader with many responsibilities.

She has worked on many aeronautical engineering projects, such as work on the B-52 for Boeing, the MB-326 Impala for the National Test Pilot School, the HU25 Falcon Jet for the United States Coast Guard, the 146-200A aerial tanker for BAE Systems (British Aerospace) and many others. She has co-authored aviation documentation pertaining to aeronautical engineering to guide her fellow engineers.

Currently, Enoka has many projects that she is involved in. She is a Static External Loads engineer at Boeing, and she is the Lead Engineer for External Loads for the newest and largest civilian aircraft, the Boeing 777-9, which is in the final stage of FAA certification. Her work includes many other models of aircraft manufactured by Boeing for the worlds largest organizations. Her work with Boeing helps private commercial organizations, federal organizations, military organizations and even Rolls Royce.

Enoka is a Member of the Society of Women Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and she is President of the North Carolina State AIAA Chapter. When time permits, she is writing a book for children and young adults to encourage them to explore the aviation industry. She takes time to mentor other engineers, especially women, on navigating a male-dominated field successfully. She also mentors college students to help them find jobs in the aerospace industry. In addition, Enoka makes many recruitment trips for Boeing to colleges, inspiring the next generation of Boeing engineers.

The Sri Lanka Foundation thanks Enoka Imali Fernando for her excellent work in the challenging fields of aerospace & aeronautical engineering and for aiding our safe travels through her work at Boeing, the leading global aerospace company.
