The Sri Lanka Foundation invites people from all walks of life to come together for this free event. The very artistic traditional stage will open to the public with a performance by students of the SLF Performing Arts Center to the tune of the Sri Lanka Foundations Theme Song, followed by other traditional dances and songs, combined with contemporary and hip hop dance and song. Come hear the rhythmic sound of the various customary drums performed solo by a renowned Sri Lankan traditional drummer. There will also be a traditional fire dance which celebrates juggling, baton twirling, spinning, fire eating and fire breathing by the SLF’s own dance troupe.
This year, the Sri Lanka Day Expo has stretched its territory beyond the Paseo Colorado to end at Garfield and Union, due to the high demand for more booths/vendors. There will be food booths with mouthwatering spicy, sweet and sour, tangy, lemony rice & curry, hoppers, kotthu rotti, and finger food – come meet Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and business owners. There will also be a ‘Kids’ Corner’ with plenty of games, face painting, magic show, arts and crafts, bouncers to keep the little ones entertained.
As always, the most awaited item on the agenda is the Pageant of Sri Lanka (Perahera). This colorful parade will wind its way through the streets of Colorado and Garfield, culminating with the very exciting and rousing ‘Baila Session’ with many Sri Lankan bands in attendance, bringing together young and old on their feet dancing to the rhythms of the night.
