Despite the appeal of the idyllic location, Koggala remains unspoilt – the town is a little bit of a secret.

Droves of tourists head to Colombo further up the island leaving the beautiful town of Koggala very much to those in the know.

One day you could be lounging on a perfect palm-fringed beach (after cooling off in the Indian Ocean) and the next you could be visiting gorgeous botanical gardens and wildlife parks.

There are almost 1600km of coastline in Sri Lanka and it’s the perfect location for catching some rays and doing absolutely nothing.

If you do fancy getting active, you’re in the perfect place to take to the seas with a spot of windsurfing or scuba diving.

Sri Lanka really has something for everyone and there’s no better base to explore the island then the luxury Long Beach Resort in Koggala.

The resort is right on the beachfront and you’ll literally step onto sand from the door of the hotel. The area is known for having the best beaches on the island.

Think super soft sand and turquoise water as far as you can see and you’re almost halfway to imagining this paradise location.

If the perfect beach is getting to be far too much for you, the hotel boasts a fabulous pool bar so you can enjoy a cocktail or two while you swim. And there’s a spa with over 30 treatments to get you in the holiday mood.

The main restaurant has a gorgeous view of the sea and the world class a la carte restaurant is open 24 hours a day.

Almost every room in the hotel has a sea view so you won’t miss a single second of the landscape and the air conditioned suites have walk in showers and either a private terrace of balcony so you’ve got a perfect haven to relax in.

It would almost be easy to forget to leave this incredible resort, but with all that Sri Lanka has to offer it’s well worth exploring further afield.

You’re within driving distance of Udawalawe National Park where you’ll be able to see around 400 elephants as well as leopards, lizards and monkeys.

However you spend your holiday, even if you decide that you don’t want to lift a finger, your trip to Koggala will be unforgettable.
