Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, following the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Ramadan remembers the moment when the Koran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad and fasting is considered one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims must also use the four-week period to pray, reflect and perform good deeds in their communities. Ramadan comes to a close with Eid-al-Fitr, which translates as the “Festival of Breaking Fast”, a day of sumptuous feasts enjoyed by families and friends.
