An Introduction to Kandyan Dance, author Dilini Seneviratne’s first book, is an exploration of Sri Lanka’s most traditional dance form, Kandyan. It explores the island’s rich history, terminologies, dance culture and gives readers of all ages the opportunity to learn more about Kandyan Dance. The first of its kind, An Introduction to Kandyan Dance is accessible to both children and adults, with illustration bringing to life the art form.
The author, Dilini Seneviratne is a British-Sri Lankan Kandyan dance practitioner. She has been teaching, choreographing, performing and practising Kandyan dance in England for over 10 years. She has performed at various reputable Sri Lankan events and venues under the guidance of Miss Kumudu Perera and Professor Mudiyanse Dissanayake in the U.K. Her main research area lies in Kandyan dance and its practices beyond Sri Lanka.
Since publishing six months ago, the book has been well received by readers and reached its way to all corners of the world including Italy, Australia, Chile, Canada, India and Japan.
