Australian Government to provide humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka.

Today Hon Julie Bishop, Minister for Foreign Affairs announced that the Australian Government will provide $500,000 as humanitarian assistance to the people of Sri Lanka affected by devastating heavy rain, flash flooding and landslides.

The assistance will support the deployment of inflatable boats and outboard motors to contribute to search and rescue efforts, the delivery of clean water, the establishment of safe spaces for children, and the provision of vital health services to affected women and girls. The Australian Government commended the Sri Lankan authorities and the United Nations for their effective response to this emergency. They also informed that they will continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to provide further assistance as required.
