Australia and Sri Lanka sign new partnership to fight chronic kidney disease

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena today (May 26) visited Australia’s nuclear agency, the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), on an inspection tour to see its advanced research on utilization of nuclear science for disease diagnosis and medicine.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO), signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Presidential Taskforce for Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease to assist in Sri Lanka’s fight against chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu).

Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Australia, Somasundaram Skandakumar, and the CEO of ANSTO, Dr Adi Paterson, signed the MOU that will see Australia provide new insights into the disease on Wednesday at Australian Parliament House, Canberra in the presence of President Maithripala Sirisena and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
