Ashan Priyanjan To Lead Sri Lanka ‘A’ To England

The national selection committee has named Ashan Priyanjan of Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club as the captain of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team for the upcoming tour of England.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ team will commence their campaign on the 26th of June in Chester-Le-Street when they take on Durham in a four-day match, followed by two more four-day matches against Pakistan ‘A’ in Leicester and Worcester.

After the four-day campaign is over, Sri Lanka ‘A’ will be involved in a Tri-series with England Lions and Pakistan ‘A’.

Sri Lanka U19 captain from Richmond College, Galle Charith Asalanka and right-arm fast-bowler Asitha Fernando from St. Sebastian’s College Katuneriya has been selected for the first time to represent Sri Lanka ‘A’ team.

Prolific run-getter Roshane Silva will join the Sri Lanka ‘A’ four-day squad from Ireland as he is currently playing club-cricket in Dublin.

Thisara Perera who was dropped from the Sri Lanka ODI squad has been named in the Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad to feature in the England Tri-series.

Apart of skipper Priyanjan, Mahela Udawatte, Niroshan Dickwella, Udara Jayasundera, Minod Bhanuka, Angelo Perera, Ramith Rambukwella, Charith Asalanka, Asitha Fernando, Sachith Pathirana, Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Gamage have been named in both squads.

24-year old left-arm seamer Mohommad Dilshad of Badureliya CC have been picked for the 50-over squad for the first time along with CCC left-arm chinaman bowler, Lakshan Sandaken who was the top wicket-taker in the Premier League Tournament 2015/16 with 52 scalps in 10 matches.

Colts CC left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya who took 38 wickets in 9 matches in the Premier League Tournament 2015/16 has been named in the four-day squad.

Former Royal College captain Bhanuka Rajapakse has recovered from his wrist injury which kept him out of the action for most of the domestic season has earned a call for the 50-over squad while his school mate, Kithruwan Vithanage has only been named for the Tri-Series.

The team will depart to England on the 22nd of June.
