Alex Jones has embarked on an exciting getaway to Sri Lanka with her new husband Charlie Thomson. The presenter of The One Show posted a photo from a London airport on Sunday, revealing that she and Charlie were off for two weeks.
The couple have wasted no time and kicked off the first day of their adventure with a gruelling hike up Sigiriya, also known as The Lion Rock of Sri Lanka.
“This morning’s mission is to get to the top of this. It’s the 8th wonder of the ancient world,” wrote Alex on Instagram, adding “#getasweaton”.
Posing in her gymwear, the 39-year-old looked eager and sporty, ready to climb the rocky plateau with her husband.
While Alex is away on holiday, Michael Ball will cover her presenting duties on the BBC One show alongside her co-host Matt Baker.
The Welsh beauty is enjoying her first summer holiday as a Mrs. She married her New Zealand beau Charlie on New Year’s Eve last year, and chose to exclusively share her wedding album with HELLO! magazine.
The couple said “I do” at Cardiff Castle, with Alex stunning in a whimsical Sassi Holford gown.
“It was spectacular,” Alex told HELLO!.”Everyone says it’s the best day of your life and it just exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed every single second.
“I’d told myself not to let it pass in a blur, because it really is quite overwhelming and nerve-racking. But I really did love it, seeing all my friends’ faces. And then once I held hands with Charlie, I thought, ‘We’re right.'”
“Alex looked absolutely stunning,” said Charlie. “I couldn’t stop smiling.”
The newlyweds have been asked whether a baby is on the cards, and Alex recently revealed that she found the question too personal.
“We got married and less than two days later the first person said ‘So, when are you going to have a baby?’ It’s a very personal question,” she said after completing a documentary about fertility for The One Show.
Opening up about her fertility worries, Alex added: “Safer sex is important but so is learning about fertility otherwise you end up where I am now saying: ‘Oh egg freezing, I don’t know about that’.
“As most girls I spent all of my teenage years, twenties, thirties, doing everything I could to avoid getting pregnant and then… a day arrives and then you go ‘gosh, maybe we should have a baby’.”
She went on to explain that her own mother went through menopause at the early age of 43, and so she has “a five-year window potentially to get this done.” However, Alex also revealed that she and her husband “haven’t started trying in earnest.”
