69th Independence Day Celebrations in Japan

The official Independence Day celebrations was held at the Kotani Hall in Minata-ku, Tokyo which was followed by a music evening “Nidahase Sandawa” featuring Maestra Visharada Nanda Malini.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan made arrangements in conjunction with the 69th Independence Day. The organizers of the event held the musical evening to a new concept where Visharada Nanda Malini sang her popular hit ‘Sakura Mal Pipila’ and had a conversation with the audience apart from singing popular patriotic songs.

Admission to the concert was free of charge and was directed by veteran music director Navaratne Gamage. Veteran Radio and Television announcer Saman Athaudhahetti was the master of ceremonies. Sri Lankans of all ages gathered to witness this unique event and to celebrate the 69th Independence of Sri Lanka. Photos by Isuru Jayasekara
