United National Party (UNP) backbenchers in Parliament have decided to handover files pertaining to alleged acts of fraud and corrupt practices committed by 10 powerful Ministers and a Chief Minister, representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting to handover the documents will take place soon, said UNP MP Chaminda Wijesiri. The UNPers allege that corrupt acts and frauds by a majority of those Ministers had taken place during the previous regime. He further alleged that several of those Ministers are presently continuing the same acts. The files are also to be handed over to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, he said.
Wijesiri said that previously too, they had submitted similar complaints, against several SLFP Ministers, to the relevant institutions for the enforcement of the law, adding further that the group of UNP backbenchers had also decided to review the current status of the complaints that had been lodged by them.
