Sri Lanka to sign Paris Agreement on Climate Change on April 22

Sri Lanka will sign the Paris Agreement on Climate Change at its Signing Ceremony to be held tomorrow ( 22 April 2016) at the United Nations headquarters, New York.

Minister of Science, Technology and Research Susil Premajayantha will be signing the agreement on behalf of the Sri Lankan government. Sri Lanka at the 21st session of the United Nations Framework Convention held in the French capital of Paris on Environmental disaster (UNFCCC) from 30th November 2015 till 11th December agreed to contribute to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

The Minister will also attend the UN General Assembly on the World Drug Problem and the High Level Thematic Debate on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which will also be held on preceding days.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal made by the President Maithripala Sirisena to assign Minister Premajayantha to sign the agreement and also to participate in the other functions in line with the ceremony.
