Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy extended their support towards the relief operations by deploying 06 relief teams in flood affected area. Navy relief teams have also rendered assistance to remove office supplies and peripherals from the inundated Divisional Secretariat of Kandawalai in the Kilinochchi District. At the same time, Sri Lanka Air Force has also carried out aerial reconnaissance flights over the flood-affected areas to support the ground troops engaged in relief operations. Sri Lanka Army has taken measures to protect tanks which pose a threat of breaching due to increasing water levels. Accordingly, troops have secured the Maradamadukulam dam with sandbags after a vulnerable location was identified. The location was secured with more than 1000 bags of sand along a 40 feet distance. Heavy rain and accompanied winds had also caused many trees falling on roads disrupting vehicular movement. Courtesy of www.lankabusinessonline.com
