New technology to help preserve ancient Sigiriya Frescos

The Department of Archaeology has taken steps to evaluate the threat posed to the Sigiriya frescos with the use of modern technology.

The new technology is due to be brought down from Italy. The Department stated that various damages caused by nature to the Sigiriya Frescos can be identified with the use of this technology.

Meanwhile, the fragile plaster wall in the cave of Sigiriya where the frescos are located, are currently being renovated.The Department of Archaeology said that a group of conservation officers have been deployed to Sigiriya for the renovations.
