Sri Lankan music legends the Marians rocked the Pearson Park Amphitheater in Anaheim  on SaturdayJune 6th. Over a thousand fans of all ages gathered to enjoy a night of pure entertainment by nine multi talented entertainers. Nalin Perera together with Prasanna Rosa, Ruwan Fernando, Dileepa Mangala, Chaminda Silva, Jayantha Kandabodage, Subash Punyasoma, Mangala Perera and Shivantha Fernando showcased their amazing acoustic ability and unique style. Milan Fernando, their sound engineer, made the night memorable.

Their ability to sing both eastern and western songs kept the crowd tapping their toes and moving to the beat. The crowd informed us that “Marians Unplugged” has been one of the best musical shows in Los Angeles. This was Mr. Thusitha De Silva’s 18th production. When asked about what he thought of the show, Mr. De Silva said that he never expected to see so many people, “I never thought there were so many fans that follow the Marians. Today was a busy day there were so many places people had to be and I am happy that the audience decided to be here, I spent over $12,000 on the sound system and boy it was the best investment!” He went on to say that there was a public outpour of compliments and feedback “I have had 17 productions, and this was the most compliments I received.”

The Marians started back in 1988 by a group of high school boys at St. Mary’s College, Chilaw, Sri Lanka. Since then they have taken the world by storm with their mega hits. Celebrating their twenty seven year anniversary, Marians are touring the USA and Canada after 12 long years. Mr. De Silva went on to say how this was a special night because he was able to thank three special people. Nalin Perera and the Marians were awarded a Peoples Award for their amazing musicality, Dr. Walter Jayasinghe was awarded a Community Service Award for his amazing work with the people of Los Angeles and his work to promote Sri Lanka and last but not least Mr. Moran Perera was awarded a Peoples Award for his undying support and passion to capture all Sri Lankan events.

We asked Thusitha of his plans for the future and he said “My 19th production will be this year. I will be bringing the great Sunil Edirisinghe with the nightingale of song Neela Wickramasinghe. It will be their first tour together. Joining them will be Suresh Maalidda, Dhananjaya Somaweera, Mahendra Pasquel and Sarath Sarathchandra. All those Marians fans who missed out, you are getting another chance in 2017. Due to popular demand I am bringing them back, so make sure to mark your calendars.”
