Her Excellency U.S. Ambassador To Sri Lanka Julie Chung Visited The LAMC Hospital In Sri Lanka

On the 12th of January, 2024, Her Excellency Julie Chung, the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, visited the Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) Hospital project site on a tour and had discussions with the senior management staff who were present on the occasion.

The Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) Hospital is a modern, 105-bed, multi-specialty, tertiary care, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) sanctioned, $40 million (LRK 12.5 billion) project under construction in Dehiwala in Sri Lanka. The project is privately funded by Dr. Walter Jayasinghe MD, the famous Sri Lankan-American philanthropist and the founder of the Sri Lanka Foundation International in Los Angeles, California. Once completed, the LAMC Hospital will be a significant contribution from Sri Lankan Americans to the people of Sri Lanka, where millions of present and future generations will benefit immensely from a genuinely world-class healthcare facility.

Ambassador Chung was briefed about some of the cardinal features of the LAMC Hospital such as the 24-hour Emergency Department, fully-fledged Radiology department with top-of-the-line MRI, CT, Digital X-Ray, Ultrasound, etc., and seven state-of-the-art, ultra-clean, modular Operating Theaters, high-end delivery (labor) suites convertible as emergency OTs, Endoscopy suites, Renal Dialysis unit, Day-surgery unit, Dental & Implantology unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), state-of-the-art Laboratory for a comprehensive range of clinical investigations and many more advanced clinical and general facilities, including a rooftop helipad to facilitate air ambulance services to offer truly international standard care services to the people of Sri Lanka and also to attract foreign patients through the promotion of Medical Tourism to the North American, European, East African, South East Asian, and Central Asian markets.

The LAMC Hospital will not only offer world-class healthcare services but also will significantly contribute towards the socio-economic development of Sri Lanka by providing over 400 direct employment opportunities and many thousands of indirect income opportunities to individuals and business institutes in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador Julie Chung lauded Dr. Walter Jayasinghe for embarking on such a generous venture, investing a considerable sum of money for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka at a time when Sri Lanka needs all such support. At the end of the site tour, Ambassador Chung extended her fullest support to ensure the successful completion of the project.

The LAMC hospital is slated to open to the public in the second half of 2025.
