Angelo Mathews was crowned the Cricketer of the year 2014 at the glamorous Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket Awards held at the Waters Edge Grand Ballroom. The legendary Kumar Sangakkara bagged the Dialog People’s Player of the Year once again for the 3rd consecutive time and he won the same award for the 5th time in the short 6-year history of this national cricket awards ceremony. The left-handed batting maestro Sangakkara has also won the ICC’s People’s Choice award in 2011 and 2012.
The awards ceremony was filled with entertainment, distinguished guests and the national heroes all under one roof was an epic night to recognize the best cricketers of Sri Lanka for their international and domestic performances during September 2013 to August 2014.
Year 2014 has been a superb and a successful year for Sri Lanka Cricket winning the Asia Cup, ICC World T20 and registering crucial wins in England. Angelo Mathews and Kumar Sangakkara were adjudged joint winners of the Best Test batsman’s recognition while Rangana Herath won the Best Test bowler’s award for his 60 wickets in 10 matches. Sri Lanka’s newest edition to the Test team, Niroshan Dickwella was named the Emerging Player of the Year as he had a brilliant entry into the Test team and for his excellent performances in the domestic circuit.
