Due to the unprecedented times we are faced with today, the 2020 Sri Lanka Day had to be cancelled.
Sri Lanka Foundation has been doing a commendable job for the last 17 years in bringing all Sri Lankans and people from other nationalities together in promoting Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, culture, her delectable food, and friendly people. The culture and heritage is mainly showcased by the cultural program that takes place with over 300 performers on the main stage from 12.00 pm to 6.00 pm.
The Founder of the Sri Lanka Foundation, Dr Walter Jayasinghe said, “I believe that success follows those who follow their heart, I went with my instincts to celebrate this day which was launched in a small scale in just one block in Santa Monica 14 years ago expanding to 3 blocks within 2 years due to heavy demand. It is a gigantic production now. This event has made our country and the Sri Lanka Foundation proud of their achievements. Today is a day in our calendar that we wait for, to come together and have so much love, fun and happiness”.
One of the main attractions of Sri Lanka Day, “Pageant of Lanka” that takes place on Colorado Blvd, which showcases over 200 performers, large elaborate floats, magnificent theater elephants, ornately costumed dancers, and heart throbbing drums. The most anticipated traditional stage performances showcase the cultural dances, drummers and a fashion show that is absolutely breathtaking.
