Devotees from around the Los Angeles, San Diego and Ventura gathered together at the Shanti Vihara in Pomona to celebrate the Sinhala & Tamil New year. Devotees passed along beautiful fragrant flowers, lights and incense hand by hand to be offered to the buddha. Resident monk Ven. Sudave Tenipita led the buddha pooja to invoke blessings for the Sinhala & Tamil New Year. Afterwards he held a short discourse about the importance of the new year. After the Dana, devotees enjoyed delicious Sri Lankan Cuisine and sweetmeats. After lunch, the Avurudu games started. Everyone enjoyed a fun filled day playing various games, meeting old friends and making new ones.
