Anuradha and Geethani clinch silver medals

Sri Lanka’s Anuradha Indrajith Cooray and Geethani Rajasekara won silver medals in the Men’s and Women’s Marathon events at the South Asian Games at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Guwahati yesterday. India’s Nithendra Singh with a timing of 2:15.18 seconds won the gold medal edging out Cooray who had to settle for silver with a time of 2:15.19. India’s Kavitha Rahut won the gold medal in the women’s marathon with a time of 2:38.38 with Lanka’s Geethani taking the silver medal in a time of 2:50.47. B.G.L. Anuradhi bagged the bronze medal in a time of 2:52.15. Meanwhile, in the men’s kabaddi event Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 14-13 and Bangladesh 24-16 and lost to India 14-35. In the women’s event Sri Lanka scored two convincing wins over Nepal 21-13 and Bangladesh 28-14. In the 10 metre air rifle event, Sri Lanka’s Mangala Samarakoon, Yamith Krishantha and Ananda Upulshantha won the bronze medal while in the 25 metre pistol shooting event, Sri Lanka’s Suranga Fernando, Jayantha Sirilal and Gamini Walgama took the bronze medal. In the 50 metre rifle prone event, Sri Lankan women – Sanduni Yasanthika, Tehani Upeshika, and Jessica Madushani clinched the bronze medal.
