Exercise Your Patriotic Duty To The Nation

The people of the country gave a mammoth victory to President Mahinda Rajapakse in the recent Presidential Election, defeating the conspiratorial anti-national elements brought together by the persuasion and financing of the international and Tamil diaspora rogues, expressing their gratitude for eradicating the terrorist menace from this country, and articulating their trust that President Rajapakse is the only person who could develop this nation and re-establish the pristine glory of this country destroyed and lost following the invasion of Western imperialists and the erroneous policies of the imperialist stooges who ruled the country in the past.

The majority he obtained surpassed all previous records, and a careful analysis of the votes polled showed that people living in hitherto undeveloped and neglected non-urban village areas were the main contributors to this epic victory.

The country is now set for the General Election to elect representatives to the Parliament for the next six years, and the government is fervently hoping to get at least 150 members elected from the government group and thereby get a two thirds majority to implement the long due constitutional changes without having to depend on the support of others who could dictate terms to the government or force it to abandon its envisaged futuristic and populist measures.

There are certain articles arbitrarily introduced in the constitution of 1978 without giving an opportunity for the populace to provide their opinion and suggestions.  One such article was the change of the traditional first past post system into electoral district system, and introduction of the preference vote system.

This method has deprived the masses the opportunity of electing a member to represent their respective electorates, and it has become absolutely impossible for a deserving patriotic person to get elected if he is unable to spend a colossal sum of money on his election campaign.  Due to this despicable system, many electorates were devoid of a member to represent the people in the area and certain electorates, particularly the urban electorates who had a cluster of members representing it.

The leader of the United National Party, Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, who acts according to the dictates of the Western nations and the Western Embassy cabal based in Colombo, and who always stands against the desires and aspirations of the general public, has already launched a campaign to deny and obstruct the new government from getting a two thirds majority.

Although his party would get a fair number of seats under the present district electoral and proportional system, despite the inability of his party to get the lead except in four or five urban electorates in the whole country, being an experienced politician, he knows very well that this is the only chance the people of this country will get to be able to elect a government that could change the obnoxious articles and clauses in the present constitution, and hence his aversion to facilitate the changes to the constitution.

Mr. Wickremasinghe had demonstrated umpteen times in the recent past that he always looks at Sri Lankan politics in a selfish angle, and he never considers the country’s and people’s welfare over and above his personal greed.

It was with this objective in collaboration with the anarchist JVP that he attempted to fool the masses recently that the present constitution should be abolished saying that they are committed to abolish the constitution and restore the parliamentary system, just because of his hatred towards President Mahinda Rajapakse.

His ignoramus deputies and political cohorts also mouthed this slogan albeit the constitutional provisions warrant a 2/3 majority in Parliament for such a change.  If they were really desirous of changing the constitution, what the UNP leader should do is desist from becoming an obstacle.

The UNP leader now eats his own words about the need to change the constitution and making a complete volte-face he is in a desperate attempt to prevent changes taking place to the constitution or implementing a constitution empowering the sovereignty to the people through an elected parliament and establishment of other proposed administrative institutions such as Jana Sabhas, Gam Sabhas, make changes to Provincial Council system and other administrative structures imposed on us and convert them to suit this country, establishment of a Senate and election of parliamentary members through re-introduction of constituencies, and make the presidency a trusteeship.  These proposals were clearly stipulated from pages 52 to 56 (both numbers inclusive) in the “Mahinda Chintana.”

Mr. Wickremasinghe, who detests and mortifies the cultural and ethical values of this nation, misses no opportunity to deride the religious dignitaries, and strongly believes that salvage lies only through adopting Western values and governing in accordance with Western principles, and has become the biggest hurdle for empowering the people to become the masters of their own destiny as well as for the endeavor being made by the patriotic masses to regain the lost prestige of this nation.

Also, the myopic policy of the UNP leader has placed the party in a great danger of minimizing genuine UNPers getting elected in many districts, including UNP’s traditional turf of Kandy district and instead many communalists, terrorist proxies, and international agents are bound to get elected based on the nomination lists submitted.  This has even led the UNP General Secretary to become frightened of contesting elections from the Kandy district and he has sought refuge in the UNP National List.

The results of not only the Presidential Election, but even the elections held earlier indicate that there is a clear polarization of people in the country where the majority of the masses yearn and aspire for the strengthening of the cultural values of this nation and develop it utilizing the indigenous resources, thereby minimizing the country’s dependence on foreign countries and foreign technology.

The present polarization offers the best opportunity to make changes to the constitution, and if it was missed, the possibility of getting another occasion to do so is very remote. It is the wish of the communalists, terrorist proxies, and international agents now contesting under the UNP nomination lists that this system should prevail so that they will be able to manipulate the main political parties and get their parochial objectives achieved.

Anyone who has an iota of patriotism in his soul should consider the forthcoming General Election as a decisive moment and shun all party allegiance and other petty interests and join together to enable the government to get two thirds majority in the next Parliament and venture with the constitutional changes required for the betterment of the country.

Let’s free Sri Lanka from the shackles, all bondage, and strengthen the people’s sovereignty so that our joint efforts could make this nation a vanguard of development in the Asian region and ensure a better and prosperous future for our posterity.
