Sri Lankan American Teacher Awarded
August 17, 2009 — Rebecca V. Perera of Pasadena, California was recently awarded the Platinum Apple Award for 2007 – 2008 by United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). She was selected as a final winner in the category of Early Childhood Education by Platinum Apple Committee of UTLA in recognition of her excellence in teaching, dedication to students, and to the teaching profession.
The annual selection for the Platinum Apple Award is a Los Angeles Unified School District-wide process. It is initiated through the nominations of contestants by fellow peers, followed by the selection of the Platinum Apple Committee.
Ms. Perera has been affiliated with the David Roberti Early Education Center in Los Angeles for the past fourteen years.
