Trinity College OBA Plays Cricket Sixes

Cricket SixesAugust 10, 2009 —

The inaugural tournament organized by the Trinity College OBA, British Columbia was held on June 13th, 2009 at the Brockton Oval in Vancouver, Canada.

The participating teams were:

College : Captain

St. Thomas’ : C.P. Vethanayagam

Royal : Harin Kaluarachi

St. Benedict’s : Desmond Anthonypillai

Trinity : Lalinda Weerasekera

St. Sylvesters’ : Manoj Perera

Rest : Capt. Lucky Hewavitharana


In the semifinals, Royal beat St. Benedict’s, and St. Thomas’ won their game against St. Sylvester’s.  In a well-contested final, the Royalists edged out the Thomians with five balls to spare in the allotted overs.

Awards

Best Batsman:  Sajiv Fernando (Royal)

Best Bowler: Thilanka Patiyakoralage (Royal)

The cricket game was followed by a friendly game of ‘tap rugby’ refereed by Old Thomian, Dushyantha Samarasekera, a former CR & FC and all Ceylon ruggerite.

The tournament served as an ideal forum to bring together alumni of these schools in a bond of camaraderie and friendly competition in the best tradition of sports.
