Inaugurated in 2006, Sri Lanka Day Expo 2008, third of its kind will be held on Saturday, August 23rd 2008 at the 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. Sri Lanka Day fulfilled a very fundamental need of the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Southern California in that it provides a time and place for the celebration of Sri Lankan food, culture, arts, crafts, business and traditions. The Food Court that served great many items of Sri Lankan cuisine was the main attraction, not to downplay the entertainment stage on the Wilshire corner, the Beauty Pageant stage on the Broadway corner and the colorful parade (Perahera) that commenced at the Broadway and ambled across to Wilshire along the Promenade.

There were more than 40 booths in all displaying many a Sri Lankan art and craft supplementing the ever-dominating food court. Almost all Sri Lankan musical groups in Southern California took part in the entertainment festival. Santa Monicans are eagerly looking forward to the third annual Sri Lanka Day Expo this year.
